The day hall 6 was crushed..twice..
Friday, January 21, 2005
Today was the day of the girls bball finals. This was a crucial match for us as it would decide whether sports champ came to us or went to the "tacticians" (actually it is just a synonym for cheaters). The odds were against us to win...hall 6 had one of the top bballers in the country who was also notably the fairest of them all, they had a long bean no. 6 to match the vertical limits of our Cheryl, on the other end...they also had Stuart Little who can run under our arms...just to name a few of their players. I was rather reluctant to go watch the match initially cos I came back to my room and I had a delicious dinner and I jus didn't feel like moving from my chair. But, luckily Amos (hall tennis hunk) offered me a lift, so I moved my ass over to NIE. I guess I am glad I went down afterall, because we crushed hall 6. We, the underdogs, crushed the overcats! This doesn't mean we suck, our team has great players too....just that they are not as highly rated.
Anyway, the match started out closely with hall 6 controlling the pace of the game. However, our team was able to snuff out their attacks with some tight marking. The first quarter was fast and furious with hall 6 making their shots count..while we were keep close tabs with some sharp shooting as well. I never thought the game would be so exciting! Seeing shot after shot go in the basket, the first quarter finally came to an end. The score for the quarter stood at an amazing high of........................ 6-3.
The second quarter offered much more promise with the grand entrance of the fashionably late patsy (our star player). With her in the game, the pace of our play changed visibly and we looked like a much stronger force to be reckoned with. Our team continued to pile in the pressure on hall 6 by matching them point for point, and keeping their shooters at bay. Some excellent defending was displayed by our twin towers of Mojo and Cheryl in grabbing the rebounds. Also, supersub jac was introduced into the game and boy did she make an impact...raking up 2 successive steals and scoring once in her first minutes on the court. However, the mvp for the day had to go to "written face" connie. Comments were heard among spectators and players alike that connie had the words "win" written on her face. Was that why she put in an mvp performance today? Maybe the other players shld have considered writing on their faces too.
Late in the game, Tower 1 Mojo was put back into the game....her task: to execute our deadliest move...in one swift and deadly move...Mojo crushed one of hall 6's star players...imagine the full force of a towering Mojo crushing a helpless ankle...boy it was not a pleasant sight...however, as the injured gal was carried off the court...she was overheard saying thank goodness trini is warming the bench today...that must have been the finishing move of the day as Hall 6 failed to penetrate us in the second half of the game and surrendered at the final whistle and was crushed...again...
Anyway..after the game..the guys who went to watch seemed so inspired that they too started shooting some hoops..some were seen mimicking connie's lay-ups..others were seen trying to imitate patsy's 3-point shot...while others jus wanted the work out to be hunky asap...
I must say..i was really impressed by connie's commitment today...made me reminiscence the good ole days in AC where we fought our hearts out on the rugby field...such passion and fire to win gave me the feeling I got when I watched "remember the titans" (wonderful show btw) cos its sad to say that I have not seen many pple display that kind of passion in games...be it a personal determination to win..or to win for ur friends or ur school or ur hall for that matter...its really a great to see someone give it his/her all on the field/court. With that..i salute u connie!
So there..the day ended with hall 6 crushed twice in an enthralling match...congrats to the bball gals! and condolences to the crushed gal... hall 6 must be green with envy now too..
